ABOUT THIS TOOL
- Recreates
- VCON.EXE v1.4, "VCON Voice File Conversion Utility", Talking Technology, Inc. (Turbo C 1987).
- Date
- 1 Oct 1990
- Who likely wrote it
- Talking Technology, Inc. (the voice-card vendor). No person's name is in the program.
- What changed in the web version
- WAV is a new source and target (the original had no such format). PC and PU are the two Powerline I formats this archive holds; the BigMouth and Powerline II formats are not offered.
- Reading a PC file uses the card's own decoder by default (the exact delta table of the voice card's driver), which is finer than VCON's integer tables; the "VCON tables" option gives what VCON itself would have produced.
- Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you upload leaves it.
- Kept on purpose (the original's bugs and habits)
- The 40-byte header of a PC/PU file is read and thrown away; the output gets 40 ZERO bytes. A header is never copied.
- A PU output loses its first sample; a PC output drops a last odd code.
- The "input samples" figure counts one extra code fetched at the end of the file.
